What are some of the early clues our bodies give us that we are pregnant
if we're not listening we may miss?
Early Signs of Pregnancy
I don't know about you but when I was "trying" to get pregnant I was on high alert. I was so hyper aware of every little thing I felt, trying to figure out if it was a sign of pregnancy. Sometimes waiting those couple of weeks until you can take a pregnancy test seem like seriously the longest weeks ever. Some of you are the patient types that will wait until you're a couple of weeks late to take a test. Well....good for you. Not me. Nope. I want to know now. I won't be able to keep my mind of wondering if there is something growing in there. I would always be searching for signs that I was pregnant.
Morning Sickness - An Early Sign of Pregnancy
Never with any of my pregnancies did I get morning sickness (THANK YOU JESUS) so I couldn't rely on that as a sign. So what else is there?? What are some of the early clues our bodies give us that if we're not listening we may miss?? So we're going to unpack what are some of the earliest signs of pregnancy that we may notice even before we take a pregnancy test. And of course the next big question after we know we're pregnant is "when am I due?" Don't worry we'll cover how to figure out your due date too.
Top 7 Early Signs You're Pregnant!
- Sore Boobs---I mean don't even look at them!!
Early changes in hormones can make your boobs sore or tender.
The girls might feel full or look bigger than normal. You may also notice some darkening in the skin color of the areolas.
- Feeling tired--I've never felt so tired in my life!!
Like you wake up in the morning and feel like you haven't slept in days tired. Someone once told me that in your first trimester your body is working as hard to create your little as it would be mountain climbing. This is because of the increased progesterone levels, decreased blood sugar, and blood pressure. Take every opportunity you can to nap, you are making a human in there!!
- Morning sickness--Let's be honest for some of us it's 24 hour sickness
Some mamas feel this as early as 2 weeks after conception. Rapid increases in estrogen can be held responsible.
- Headaches
Increased blood circulation along with changes in hormones can cause mild, frequent headaches.
- Mood Swings
Again the flood of hormones in early pregnancy can cause you to feel emotional or weepy. These highlighted emotions can last the first trimester.
- Constipation
An increase in progesterone can cause a decrease in the speed of our digestion. That makes food hang in our digestive track longer than normal. This can also play a part in the nausea.
- I feel pregnant!
Call it a women's intuition but sometimes you just know. You may have a one of the symptoms above or a combination of a few.
So once we see those two glorious lines on that stick the next thing we want to know is....when am I due?
If you know the first day of your last period all you need to do is add 280 days or 40 weeks to the first day of your last period. There a ton of due date calculators online so you don't even need to do the math.
And if you really want to confirm your pregnancy and see your little peanut you can come into our office for a First Look ultrasound. If you are between 6-13 weeks we will do an abdominal ultrasound to determine baby's size, give you an expected due date, and listen to the heartbeat (starting at 8 weeks). We would love to be the ones to give you your first ever baby pictures.
