I’ll never forget the day that Teagan’s Dad, James walked into our office and asked to talk to me outside. A million thoughts were going through my head of what he was going to say, but never did I expect what he shared with me that day. With tears in his eyes he told me the news they just got from their doctor and I felt devastated for them. How do you handle news like that?
James said how important it was for them to get some pictures of their daughter because they didn’t know if they would ever meet her alive! The only hope I could give them was to come in when ever they needed to see their little princess in 3d and get some pictures of her at no cost. By this time we were both crying and James gave me the biggest bear hug ever!
So this beautiful family that we grew to love would come in often and always on a Tuesday because they loved having Erika scan them. On one of those visits, Erika surprised them with a Heartbeat Bear so they could listen to Teagan’s heartbeat anytime they wished! That bear makes it into every family photo and will always be a treasure to them! This family became family and we looked forward to their visits and to see their little girl progressing and big brother, EZ melted our hearts too! When they would pull into our parking lot, EZ would shout out, “We’re at Teagan’s house”!
Fast forward to December 2nd, little Teagan Ali made her entrance into the world reminding all of us how special and unique she was! This strong little girl beat the odds! The hospital staff asked Rachel and James, “What are your wishes?” Rachel expressed how James had always wanted to just bring their daughter home, that’s all he really wanted. So, one doctor responded “I think that’s exactly what you need to do, she should be with you in your arms as she takes her last breath”.
So, they packed her in her car seat and headed home but not before stopping by so Teagan could meet Erika. James said, “as they rounded the corner with Teagan in the car seat, he could feel the joy swell in the room and we were all grateful for that moment.”
Little Teagan got her angel wings at six days old. We all lost a little piece of our hearts that day but we also felt privileged to be part of her journey! Rachel, Teagan’s very brave Mama said, “I’m reminded regularly of how extraordinary Teagan was and will always be thankful for carrying Teagan full term as well as the days they had to share her with others. But I still can’t help wishing.”
This little girl changed us forever! To read more about Teagan’s journey and how Rachel and James are supporting other families with hope in a hopeless situation, visit their Facebook page: Remembering Teagan Ali, Triploidy Awareness.
Teagan’s Angels project got started with this special little girl and her family. If you or know someone that received a fatal diagnosis during their pregnancy, we would like to offer them weekly visits to see their baby in 3d along with a recording of their baby’s heartbeat so they can treasure it forever.
